Dream a little or a lot!A lifetime financial plan begins with a dream.

While there are many details that can vary from financial plan to financial plan, the generally accepted definition is the process of providing comprehensive advice and assistance to a client for the purpose of meeting a client's financial needs and life goals. The process normally includes six steps:

  • data gathering
  • goal setting
  • identification of financial issues
  • preparation of written options and recommendations
  • implementation of the client's decision
  • periodic review and revision of the plan.

My first job is to help you sort things out and focus on your most important near term goals (new house, starting a business, college education for children, second property...) and then your most desired long range dreams (retirement somewhere exciting, charitable donations, family educational foundations...).  In discussing your goals, I urge clients to focus upward towards loftier goals, on their true heart of hearts dreams.

If our planning does not include a potential way for your dreams to come true, then we have both stopped short of accomplishing what we can and should try to accomplish.  For most responsible employed people, financial planning for needs and basic wants really is not that hard.  It is seeking to reach dreams that is a challenge which many forego.  Seeking to reach your dreams is a journey worth taking on, that we should not ignore.

Of course, we will focus a substantial portion of our time discussing your current situation, your current employment and future employment possibilities and retirement goals.  You will need to bring a list of all your investment accounts, insurance policies, annuities, real estate, and other assets, as well as, your liabilities (home loans, car loans, credit card balances, etc.).

In every case, we will focus on maintaining ample liquidity in case of changes of circumstance and managing risk through appropriate use of insurance.  Many of my clients are small business owners and business managers, in those cases we will build a plan that provides the right level of flexibility for changes such as, selling a business, expanding a business, business downturns, moving up or down the career ladder, job switches and outright career changes- which for some, is part of their financial plan.

Based on the financial objectives you present to me and my team at the outset and updated periodically, together we will develop a comprehensive picture of your total finances and goals, analyze the results, and put together a detailed course of action with the end goal being that hopefully one day you wake up and realize that your dreams have come true.
